With 15 points from 12 games, CSK has consolidated second place in the Indian Premier League standings, one point behind table-toppers Gujarat Titans (16 points from 11 games). The bowlers, headed by Matheesha Pathirana (3/37), restricted DC to 140 for 8 in their allocated 20 overs after setting a tough 168-run total. won their seventh game of the season, while DC suffered their seventh defeat in 11 games, leaving them at the bottom of the points standings. Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja’s searing performances, together with Matheesha Pathirana’s three-wicket haul, enabled Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 27 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. Dhoni and Jadeja’s 19th-over attack lifted CSK to 167/8. Pathirana grabbed three wickets, Deepak Chahar two, and Ravindra Jadeja one. Rilee Rossouw led Delhi with 35 runs off 37 balls, while Manish Pandey hit 27 runs off 29 balls. Chennai spinners dominated Delhi hitters at the outset of their innings, defending a score of 167. Deepak Chahar drew first blood, claiming a key wicket from David Warner to give DC an early lead in the first over. Mitchellsh, a right-handed batter, next came out to bat. Moeen attempted to accelerate but was caught in the trap of Kuldeep Yadav in the 10th over, smashing a miscued ball straight into the palms of Mitchell Marsh.
In the 12th over, Ajinkya Rahane quickly followed Moeen back into the dugout, playing a shot that was single-handedly pouched by Lalit Yadav.
